Aromatherapy is a complementary therapy that uses essential oils that are extracted from plants (leaves, flower, fruit etc) for promoting health and well-being. What is wonderful about aromatherapy is that you do not have to be ill to enjoy the benefits, it can be a support to your health and well-being programme. For example, an aromatherapy massage or oils in a diffuser can simply enhance your state of well-being!

Essential Oils  are considered the life force or the signature of the plant (the scent of a flower or herb is due to the essential oil content). Most essential oils are antiseptic and anti-bacterial. Some are sedative (lavender, clary sage ,cedarwood etc), stimulating (lemongrass, rosemary etc) or even aphrodisiac (ylang ylang, jasmine). General Uses:

• First Aid (e.g lavender, tea tree for burns, peppermint for headaches, tea tree for fungal infections)
• Skin Care - frankincense, carrot seed, chamomile, geranium, jasmine
• Stress Relief - geranium, bergamot, frankincense, marjoram, ylang ylang and several others

Methods of Application

• An aromatherapy massage with selected oils is probably the most enjoyable way to benefit from this holistic therapy. You gain from the sense of touch as well as the sense of smell.
• Inhalation - hot/cold compress,  in a diffuser or a few drops on a tissue
